Recruiting Women
The increasing need for skilled workers in the construction industry is fueling an interest on the part of employers in previously under-utilized groups. This need is creating a window of opportunity for women that should not be overlooked. The value of a healthy construction industry to a booming economy cannot be overstated. Without it, the infrastructure needed to allow the expansion of other industries and the supporting services they attract cannot be put in place. A healthy construction industry depends on skilled trades to get the work done.
“There are huge incentives to employing women, particularly when you consider the calibre of Women coming through… These women are determined, dedicated, and conscientious…They are just the kind of personnel the industry is crying out for in the 21st century.” (EOC - Equal Opportunities Commission UK)
Checklist Strategies
‘Outreach recruitment’ refers to developing positive relationships with other labour market partners on a continuing basis, not just when a job opening arises. BCIT and Selkirk College have discovery trade programs that graduate potential entrants in trades positions around the province. Check our Web links for ‘Outreach recruitment’.
